As a matter of fact they have had to resend the setting to the manufacturer 3 different times because of design errors. However it is now June 27 th and the setting that we ordered is still not finished. They were nice enough to loan my fiancé a temporary solitaire setting to have something to propose with on our vacation. Unfortunately, the engagement ring was not quite finished, however, the diamond was. Which was just in time for the perfect proposal he had planned to do while we were on vacation during the last week of May. Towards the end up April of this year, my now fiancé purchased an engagement ring at Kubes and he was assured it would be ready in 4 weeks. Let me just say, that I have never written a review about any business on Unilocal before but I thought I should share my experience with Kubes so no one else can run into the same drawn out issues my fiancé and I have had. After being a lurker on Unilocal for a few years, my first review goes to Kubes! I would certainly recommend Kubes to anyone in the market for an engagement ring. Kubes can get a little busy on the weekends, but it is a reflection of their popularity in the area. Chris worked within my budget and made it possible to get the ring my fiancée envisioned. I was sent multiple CAD drawings for review/modification and went in to pick from a selection of diamonds. Chris was very patient with me during the process, sometimes communicating multiple times a week. Once I knew what my fiancée wanted, it was up to Chris and me to figure out the details so the end result was a surprise. After taking my fiancée to Kubes and talking with Chris we decided to customize an engagement ring around different designs we had seen in the store. The reviews I read online said the people at Kubes were just that. I was looking for a jeweler that was honest, knowledgeable and personable. My fiancée and I recently relocated to Fort Worth from Michigan. I assure you - if/when the watch does need additional service - I WILL be returning to do business with this fine family run business, I know very few technicians in any field who would not have taken advantage or my emotional attachment to pressure me into the highest dollar service they could. SO – I came away thrilled not only at his rare skill - but also his business practices. Even though he knew I was prepared to pay whatever it took, he assured me that he would let that go for now unless/until the watch exhibited other problems - that for now - it was fine. I asked for his recommendation on whether to do this now. He did remind me that this was a hundred year old watch and would, at some point, need a thorough servicing. Turns out - the problem was simply an odd spot of rust - easily cleaned for about 1⁄ 10 th the estimated price. I’m sure he was aware of this willingness. I left it for a more thorough exam - fully prepared to spend $ 300 +/-to save my beloved watch. The cost for fixing these was going to run around $ 300.
He gave the watch a cursory exam while I waited and explained to me some possible problems. There I met Joe Don Kube who was not only a certified watchmaker (one of only a few hundred in the nation) but also a lover of antique watches, well experienced in their repair. I had despaired of finding anyone with the proper skill set to help me when a friend recommended Kube’s. After a couple of weeks of running fine - it stopped. I had received an 1898 Elgin National pocket watch for my birthday.
